Use phases, not permanent breeding
Keep rest, preparation, laying/incubation, rearing, weaning and moult as distinct record stages. The Gouldian diet literature describes seasonal nutrition, but one keeper's month names do not automatically fit Jerusalem or every species in the room. Rest should protect recovery without withholding essential nutrition.

Review each attempt
Record eggs, hatch, survival, caregiver behaviour, food acceptance and parent condition. Preserve unsuccessful attempts as well as successes. Repeated empty clutches, chick loss or declining adult condition should trigger investigation before another round, rather than an automatic supplement increase.
Build a useful handover
Keep cage assignments, daily tasks, exact food storage, supplier details and emergency contacts together. Export records periodically. Give another keeper instructions that identify the actual birds and products; a broad 'feed finches' note is not enough for a room with several specialist species and foster teams.
