Act immediately

Breathing difficulty, collapse or inability to perch, seizures, ongoing bleeding, serious injury, suspected fumes or poisoning, a predator bite, or straining with weakness require urgent veterinary contact. A cold, weak or repeatedly unfed chick is also urgent. Do not wait for an ordinary care reminder.

Emergency guide

Arrange safe transport

Phone a clinic that accepts birds and follow its instructions. Minimize handling, provide secure footing in a small ventilated carrier and keep the setting quiet. Never compress the chest. Do not force water or food into a weak bird, squeeze a suspected retained egg, peel a shell or improvise with leftover medicines.

Bring useful evidence

Have the species, bird ID, onset, feeding changes, recent additions, exact products given and photographs or short video ready. Keep an emergency contact and after-hours route in the breeder profile. Describe what was seen rather than assigning a disease name from an internet photograph.
